WiFi Connection Shows Connected But No Internet Connection

If you’re using Windows 10 (This should work on Windows 7 and 8 too) and are experiencing this issue, here’s a useful tool that will instantly reset your WiFi connection whenever you need to.  This is much quicker than disabling and re-enabling the connection manually.

In order to set things up, first,we need to know a couple of things about your connection.  Specifically, we need to make a note of your Profile Name and your WiFi’s SSID name.

You’ll already know the WiFi SSID name as that will be displayed as the network you want to connect to. Usually the Profile Name will be the same as your WiFi SSID name, but there’s an easy way to check..

Hold down the Windows key on the bottom-left of your keyboard and press the “R” key.

A black window should appear.  In there type:

netsh wlan show profile name=*

And then press the ENTER or Return key.

You’ll probably need to scroll the details back up towards the top, and there you’ll find a section called “Profile information” which will contain the Name.

Now, once you’ve made a note of those details, right-click and save this little program reset-wifi.bat to your computer.

Once it’s downloaded to your computer, right-click on the downloaded file and select the “Edit” option. (You might need to click on “more info” and “Run anyway” if you get a Windows security warning.  (If you have problems downloading the file, simply create a new file on your computer called reset-wifi.bat and copy the text below into it)

You’ll see the following text..

Netsh WLAN disconnect
Netsh WLAN connect ssid=SSIDNAME name=PROFILENAME

Now, simply delete the SSIDNAME and PROFILENAME text and replace it with the details that you previously made a note of.

Then click on the cross (top-right) to close the editor and save changes when prompted.

Now, whenever you click on this file, it’ll instantly disconnect and reconnect your WiFi connection within a few seconds.  Copy the file to your desktop to make it easy to find when you want to reset your connection.
